I Wish to Have a Birthday Party

Salma, is a nine-year-old girl suffering from heart complications. She’s being treated at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease Hospital. Salma told Make-A-Wish® Pakistan volunteers that her one wish was to celebrate her birthday with a party unlike any she’d ever had. On top of that, she wished to attend her personal gala wearing her favorite pink shoes and matching dress.

To mark the World Wish Day on 29th April 2010, Make-A-Wish Pakistan arranged a birthday party at the hospital where Salma was staying. Make-A-Wish volunteers decorated her room with colorful balloons, and ribbons. When Salma entered the room, looking ravishing in a branded pink dress with matching pink shoes, the guests were singing happy birthday as she was greeted by her friends and parents showering her with gifts. Salma was so overcome with joy, she was speechless. She blushed at the thought of having her birthday party wish granted. All of her troubles were an afterthought.

Salma’s father was overwhelmed. He said that since they had spent so much time in the hospital, they were beginning to feel hopeless. He also said that when he saw his daughter blowing out the candles and cutting the cake with friends, wearing a huge smile, that the wish gave them hope, inspiration and strength to stand with Salma while she fights for her life. With tears of happiness in Salma’s eyes, she and her father thanked Make-A-Wish Pakistan for a wish come true.
