I Wish to be a Policeman

Jack, Age 7, Hunter Syndrome Storage Disease

Jack wants to be a policeman when he grows up, so it was no surprise to Make-A-Wish® New Zealand volunteers that his wish was to be one. Jack had a special, miniature New Zealand policeman's uniform made just for him, and hand delivered along with tickets for a Gold Coast, Australia holiday. The deliverymen? The local armed offender’s squad and their trusty K9!

The morning of Jack's wish day began with a ride to school in volunteer Michael’s Corvette! The whole school met him on the tennis court.

Grinning from ear to ear, his mum said that he screamed with delight!

Jack waited four years to visit the Gold Coast as part of his wish, mostly because of major surgeries, so his wish was a long time coming. An added bonus to the wish trip was reuniting Jack with his dad, currently serving in East Timor, for the first time in nearly a year.

Jack's mum recalled the trip

What a fantastic trip. The kids had the best time ever, and seeing their Dad was awesome.

The dolphin was definitely a highlight–he can't stop talking about how he got to train the dolphin. He thought he was pretty cool hanging out with the girls on the plane on the way over because he earned his own set of wings. He got to meet all his favourite characters.

The greeting we got when we landed in Australia was awesome. We were busy all the time and the kids are still sleeping lots trying to make up for it all.

Thanks so much,
Kirsty

Report from an Australian Airport Policeman:

I can see what you say about him smiling. He doesn't stop and he has such an effect on people around him. Apparently he was walking up and down the aisle in the plane introducing himself and giving everyone high fives.

Jack's wish touched everyone involved, and surely his smiling face will continue to do that to anyone he meets.
