We hope you enjoyed our World Wish Day Wish Talk and that hearing our wish child Xander share his experience inspired you to create hope for other children around the globe.
Please help us celebrate our annual World Wish Day by contributing towards the 10,259 wishes that are still waiting to be granted.
Behind every wish is a child who is hoping and dreaming that their one true wish can be granted soon.
This World Wish Day, don’t wait for hope, create it.
If you were not able to join the live event but would still like to listen to the Wish Talk,

Since 1980, we’ve granted more than 500,000 wishes all over the world.

An inspiring story from Javier

Javier is a professional athlete who has competed in the Pan American Games in 2019, and ranked in 4th place! He is now focusing on improving his performance and training for the next one! He tells us how Make-A-Wish supported him on his journey:
“Make-A-Wish made a huge impact in my life during my treatment and helped me get through very difficult times. I had my wish granted by Make-A-Wish Chile ‘to have a portable playstation’ 12 years ago. By playing my playstation, I had something to distract me, as living with an illness like mine as a child was very hard. I have always loved sports, so I enjoyed playing PES on my playstation with another kid in hospital.”
“Although one of my legs was amputated, I have my two hands free and I am more independent now, I can do any exercise I want. Life brings many obstacles, but they are just tests and will pass. We must smile and take the good with the bad, and always remain positive in the face of difficulty.“
There are still over 10,259 kids like Kylie, Eva, and Milán waiting for their wishes to be granted.
Could you create hope for them today?

Kylie has really struggled with the added isolation during this pandemic, but she has hope. Soon she will have a place to spend time with her family and friends safely outside, once her wish is granted.

Eva is a very brave girl living with neuroblastoma – she is not afraid of doctors, infusions or anesthesia masks. She has been undergoing treatment for most of her childhood – two years, in fact.

Milán’s illness affects his skeletal muscles that are used for movement, and the connective tissue and other structures throughout the body. But, he doesn’t let that stop him from drawing.
World Wish Day

Make-A-Wish traces its inspiration to Christopher James Greicius, an energetic 7-year-old boy battling leukemia who wished to be a police officer in 1980, Chris Greicius’ family and friends came together to help grant his wish ‘to be a police officer’. Little did Chris know that his wish would create a movement that would transform millions of lives.
Today, Make-A-Wish has been granting life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses for 41 years, in nearly 50 countries across 5 continents all over the world. More than 500,000 wishes have been granted since then.
Every year, Make-A-Wish chapters and affiliates come together in celebrating World Wish Day on April 29, the anniversary of the wish that inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish.
This year our campaign ‘Don’t Wait for Hope. Create it.’ stems from the fact that wish families have been some of the hardest hit by the pandemic. Feelings of fear and isolation have become the new normal for everyone, but they are often felt deepest by the most vulnerable members of the population, including children with critical illnesses.
Now more than ever, wishes can bring hope, joy and a sense of normalcy back into the lives of wish kids and their families. You can help to make life-changing wishes come true.
