Take Ebranaz, a five-year-old bravely facing acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She has always loved fairies, with their wings and sparkles. More than anything she wished to become a fairy herself.

A wish is often a milestone. For children who have finished treatment, this often marks the start of a period when the child is looking forward instead of back. This period becomes part of their recovery story, a bright point that stands apart from appointments and waiting rooms.
There are many beautiful stories that mark this moment. Kai Kai was just four when he completed treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He now returns to the hospital for regular checkups with a big smile. His biggest hero of all is Godzilla, because Godzilla means strength, and strong is exactly who he wished to be.
A family’s perspective on the wish journey
Childhood cancer affects the whole family of a child living with a critical illness, not only the child. Parents and siblings carry their own worry and exhaustion. From the first idea to the wish itself, the wish journey gives the entire household a chance to breathe, and to be together away from the stresses of the hospital.
Ying Xuan was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2021. Hospital visits and treatment quickly took the place of an ordinary, carefree childhood. Her wish to become a mermaid gave her and the people around her a joyful moment to share.
Small moments, big impact: memories that last
A wish can be a grand event, but the strength it leaves behind often lives in small moments. The sparkle of a pair of fairy wings. A big smile during a checkup. The feeling of becoming who you wished to be.
Those joyful memories keep giving strength long after the wish itself is over. For Ebranaz it was becoming a fairy, for Kai Kai the strength of his hero, and for Ying Xuan the magic of life as a mermaid. Each one is proof that even in the hardest times, there is room for wonder.
