I wish to be a train driver
Fatah, 8, Indonesia
Fatah is a quiet eight-year-old who is currently undergoing treatment for leukemia. He has a deep fascination with trains — collecting miniature models and memorizing serial numbers with impressive precision. Ask him about any local train line, and he’ll confidently recite its details. So it was no surprise that his greatest wish was to become a train driver.
Just a day before his birthday, Fatah received a special surprise at home: real train drivers visited him to help prepare for his upcoming wish experience and gifted him a miniature version of his favorite train. Their visit set the stage for what was to come.
When the big day arrived, Fatah’s dream came true. His experience began with a warm welcome at Jakarta Station, where he took part in official safety checks — the same procedures real conductors perform before a journey. Then came the highlight: dressed in a full official uniform and equipped with a personalized ID, Fatah stepped into the driver’s cabin and drove a train from Jakarta to Djuanda.
To make the occasion even more memorable, the station honored Fatah with a special announcement across the entire platform, celebrating his role as a train driver for the day. It was an extraordinary experience that combined his passion with a sense of achievement — a wish that will stay with him and his family forever.
