I wish to go ice skating

Mia, 9, Colombia

liver transplant
A young girl in a purple skating outfit and pink helmet stands in a shopping centre behind a squirrel-shaped ride, fulfilling Mía’s wish to go ice skating.

Mía is a sweet 9-year-old living in sunny Colombia, awaiting a new liver after undergoing a previous transplant. She lives in a very warm city where ice skating isn’t possible. But that never stopped her wishing to experience it. In her imagination, she saw herself gliding across the ice to her favorite Karol G music, dressed in a purple figure skating outfit, lost in an experience that felt completely magical.

To bring that wish to life, Mía and her mom were surprised with a trip to Bogotá, where her wish would take place.

When she arrived at the ice rink, she was welcomed with a specially designed wish box illustrating her skating on a large rink, dressed as a figure skater. When asked if she’d brought her own skating outfit, she shyly admitted she didn’t have one. So out came a second box, holding a custom-made purple skating dress with sparkles, made just for her. It fit perfectly.

With her eyes covered, Mía was guided toward the ice. Once her skates and helmet were on, the blindfold came off. She found herself standing in the middle of the rink, surrounded by dozens of children from her own hospital, all cheering her on. She happily skated with her friends for hours, enjoying every second until she was completely worn out.

The wish continued with a Christmas train ride to Santa’s Village, where Mía met Santa Claus and proudly told him her wish had come true. She received a plush toy that Santa somehow knew she wanted, fed reindeer, baked cookies, and even rode a sleigh on a journey around the world.

Afterward came Mía’s favorite lunch, fries and a milkshake, followed by a visit to a beautifully decorated Christmas village where she could shop and play to her heart’s content. The magical experience finished with a cheering crowd holding signs with encouraging messages and a medal gifted to Mía recognizing her as the best ice skater. It was a powerful reminder of the joy and lasting impact a wish can bring.
