I wish to have a soft elephant toy
Binaya, 4, Sri Lanka
Binaya is a quiet and gentle four-year-old, currently living with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She fi nds joy in simple moments, especially when building little worlds with her colorful blocks.
When asked what her heart wished for most, Binaya softly said she wanted a large, cuddly elephant toy — something she could hug and play with every day.
Another young girl who was celebrating her own birthday in May chose, instead of receiving gifts for herself, to make someone else’s wish come true. She chose Binaya.
As her wish was granted, Binaya’s eyes grew wide as the biggest, fl uffi est elephant she had ever seen was placed in her arms. She hugged it tightly, her smile saying more than words ever could.
To make the day even better, she enjoyed her favorite snacks and happily sipped on chocolate drinks. It was a day fi lled with quiet joy and love.
Binaya now has a new best friend to keep her company on the tough days — and to celebrate with on the good ones.
