Types of Planned Gifts

  • Give in your Will

A gift in your will—also known as a bequest—is a simple and meaningful way to support Make-A-Wish International. It allows you to leave a gift from your estate that helps grant life-changing wishes for children, after your lifetime.

  • Life Income Gifts

Life income gifts, such as charitable remainder trusts or charitable gift annuities, provide the donor with a source of income for life in exchange for their gift to Make-A-Wish International.

  • Charitable Trusts

Charitable trusts are arrangements that provide for a specific amount of assets to be held in trust for the benefit of Make-A-Wish International. They offer several tax benefits to the donor, and can provide a source of income for the donor or their beneficiaries.

  • Gifts of Appreciated Assets

Gifts of appreciated assets, such as stocks or real estate, allow the donor to receive an income tax deduction for the full market value of the asset while avoiding capital gains tax.

Tax Residency

Make-A-Wish International is registered in the United States as a non-profit organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of Internal Revenue Code, in nearly 50 countries and territories worldwide.

Every country has different rules about wills and estate gifts. We recommend speaking with your legal or financial advisor to find what works best for you. Our friendly team is also here to speak with you in confidence. We’d love to hear from you—reach out anytime to talk with us.

How to start

  • 1. Consult Your Financial Advisor

It is important to consult with your financial advisor to determine which type of planned gift is right for you and your financial situation. Your financial advisor can help you understand the tax implications of your gift and ensure that it fits with your overall financial plan.

  • 2. Contact Us

  • 3.  Make a Gift

Once you have determined the type of planned gift that is right for you, the next step is to make your gift. You can make a gift through a will or living trust, or by setting up a charitable trust or life income gift.

  • 4. Sample Language

For an unrestricted gift that allows Make-A-Wish to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

” I give the sum of $___ (or ___%) to Make-A-Wish Foundation International, of 1702 E. Highland Avenue, Suite 305, Phoenix, Arizona, 85016, United States of America, Federal Identification Number (EIN): 86-0726985, to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors deems appropriate in its sole discretion.”

To designate your provision for a particular purpose:

“I give to Make-A-Wish Foundation International, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 1702 E. Highland Avenue, Suite 305, Phoenix, Arizona, 85016, United States of America, Federal Identification Number (EIN): 86-0726985, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as Make-A-Wish Foundation International determines that the need exists. If Make-A-Wish Foundation International shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then Make-A-Wish Foundation International may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above.”

If you have named Make-A-Wish International in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. Notifying us of your plans will enable us to plan for the use of your future gift. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.
