How the Wish Journey affects children

Studies show that the Wish Journey can have a thorough impact on children’s lives through wish-granting programs. These programs can create lasting memories for children living with critical illnesses and their families. The mere possibility of realizing a long-held wish can bring immense joy and a sense of normalcy during difficult times. The experience helps elevate the emotional well-being of both the child and their family. Moreover, wish fulfillment can instill children with a sense of achievement and independence, empowering them throughout the treatment journey.

The construction of the Wish Journey Make-A-Wish Korea

Make-A-Wish Korea adopts a meticulous approach to granting wishes for children living with critical illnesses. Before the Wish Journey is initiated, the organization rigorously evaluates each application for eligibility, ensuring children that are considered for the wish granting process meet the established criteria. Next, the child’s physician is consulted to confirm the wish-granting process is safe.

At this point the Wish Journey starts with the Wish Capture, where wish granters meet the family and identify what the child’s wish consists of. In the Wish Design phase wish granters work with the child to design and plan the child’s genuine desire. After capturing and designing the wish, the organization initiates the Wish Anticipation phase, where the details of the wish are unveiled and the child and family await the wish to be brought to life.

Once all necessary individuals, partners, donors and resources are brought together, Make-A-Wish Korea advances to the Wish Realization stage, ultimately fulfilling the child’s wish. The lasting impact of hope, strength and joy after the wishgranting process is fondly referred to as the ‘Wish Effect’.

What makes a child eligible for a wish?

Make-A-Wish is committed to granting the wishes of children who are living with a critical illness from the age of 3 and before they have reached their 18th birthday. These include progressive, degenerative, or malignant illnesses, requiring medical intervention. In order to qualify for the Wish Journey, the child must have the cognitive ability to understand the concept of the wish and be able to actively participate in the wish-granting process.

How does the Wish Journey at Make-A-Wish Korea work?

At Make-A-Wish Korea, the wish journey is a carefully crafted process that encompasses five distinct phases, each playing a significant role in bringing hope, joy, and strength to children living with critical illnesses.

Wish Capture: This phase begins with the initial referral, where parents, legal guardians, healthcare professionals, or the children themselves reach out to Make-A-Wish Korea. Our Wish Coordinators gather essential information about the child’s medical condition, interests, and heartfelt desires, capturing the essence of their wish.

Wish Design: Once the wish is captured, our dedicated Wish Design team collaborates closely with the child and their family to create a personalized wish experience. Taking into account the child’s unique circumstances and medical considerations, we work diligently to design a wish that will bring immense joy and create lasting memories.

Wish Anticipation: During this phase, the child eagerly anticipates their wish coming true. They embark on an exciting journey of anticipation, sharing their wish with their loved ones and building excitement for the magical experience that lies ahead. This period of anticipation additionally provides a source of positivity and optimism.

Wish Realization: The moment of wish realization is the culmination of the wish journey. Make-A-Wish Korea works tirelessly to ensure every detail of the wish is meticulously planned and executed. Whether it involves meeting a favorite celebrity, going on an adventure, or experiencing something extraordinary, we strive to create a wish come true that exceeds expectations and brings pure joy to the child.

Wish Effect: The wish effect extends far beyond the wish experience itself. This phase represents the lasting impact that the wish has on the child and their entire support network. The wish effect can encompass increased hope, resilience, and improved emotional well-being for the child. It also can serve as a source of inspiration and strength for their families and the community, emphasizing the transformative power of a wish.
