How a wish changes lives

Make-A-Wish strives to provide the hope and joy for children with life-threatening illnesses. When a child or family contacts our Affiliate Panama for help, we carefully review their case with transparency and work to grant their wish with the help of our donors. We understand that these children often miss out on a normal childhood and may lack confidence due to the challenges they face.

That’s why it is our aim to provide them with hope and support through the granting of their wishes. We have helped children fulfill their dreams, which can boost their confidence and emotional well-being and even support their treatment journey. We are committed to doing everything we can to help these children live the lives they want and deserve.

Phases of Make-A-Wish Panama

Our Affiliates of Make-A-Wish Panama work to grant wishes for children living with a critical illness throughout the country. The process of granting these wishes consists of four steps.

First, a request for intervention is made by the child, their parent or guardian, a medical professional or someone else familiar with the child’s condition. Next, the child’s eligibility for a wish is determined, with the help of the child’s doctor, who assesses whether they are medically able to participate in the proposed wish.

In the third phase, our team visits the child and their family to allow the child to help design their wish according to their own dreams and interests. Finally, Make-A-Wish Panama works to coordinate resources and activities between donors, volunteers and other various institutions, with a focus on the input and wishes of the children and their families. Through this process, we aim to bring hope to the lives of these children and their families.

Criteria to apply for a wish

Make-A-Wish Panama grants wishes to children between the ages of 3 and 17 who have a life-threatening health condition. When a child applies for a wish, they are required to provide information about their condition. The child’s treating physician will be contacted to confirm whether the child meets the eligibility criteria for the wish program. The physician’s evaluation is an important step in the Wish Journey process, as it helps ensure that the child is able to participate and benefit from the wish experience.
