I wish to be a doctor
Arsyla, 8, Indonesia

At just five years old, the lively and cheerful Arsyla suddenly developed a fever and weakness in her legs. Her parents rushed her to the nearest hospital, where the doctor immediately referred her to a specialised cancer hospital, and Arsyla was diagnosed with leukemia.
Three years of treatment followed. Her chemotherapy journey has been longer than usual because the medication affected her bones and nerves, requiring her to undergo a year of physiotherapy. Now, using a wheelchair and wearing a spinal brace, Arsyla still shines in her own way and bravely continues her chemotherapy. She remains the same bright, outspoken child who loves to perform.
“I want to be a cancer doctor, like Dr. Tanti,” she said, proudly referring to the doctor who has been by her side throughout this journey. On the day her wish came true, Arsyla accompanied her heroes in examining patients, prescribing medicine, and conducting research. That day, she was not a patient; she was a doctor with her custom white coat, her own stethoscope around her neck. Having her wish come true has only strengthened her resolve—to heal others, like a real doctor.
