How a wish changes lives

Make-A-Wish Norway strives every day to bring light and hope into the lives of children living with critical illnesses. A wish granted can bring incredible joy to life and lots of hope. It can make children believe that anything and everything is possible.

Phases of Make-A-Wish Norway

Make-A-Wish Norway aims to grant the wish of every eligible child in Norway. The team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly to fulfill these wishes. The stages of the wish journey include wish discovery and design. Make-A-Wish works with the child and their family to identify what the child’s wish may be. Excitement builds as the wish is planned. It is then brought to life using funds people donate for the cause, bring hope, strength and lasting happy memories for the child and their family. Make-A-Wish Norway firmly believes in the idea of giving the utmost respect to the child, their family, and everyone around them. It is a priority which informs every step of the wish granting journey.

Criteria to apply for a wish

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children living with a critical illness who are over the age of three years old. You can fundraise for these kids throughout the year. It does not have to be specifically for World Wish Day.

Donate today and transform the lives of critically ill children

Living with a critical illness can be extremely tough, and so a wish granted means a lot to these children and their families. If you are able to help grant the wish of a child, do it today by making a donation and help spread kindness in this world.

Do I have to be the parent in order to refer a child to Make-A-Wish Norway?

No, you do not have to be the direct parent if you want to refer a child to Make-A-Wish Norway. In order to refer a child, you can be a medical professional (doctor, nurse, social worker, psychiatrist, or pediatrician), the caretaker, neighbor, friends, or other relatives. Even the child living with the critical illness themself can personally apply for the wish.

What can I do to help Make-A-Wish Norway?

You can do multiple things to help Make-A-Wish Norway. Get involved with the Wish Journey by becoming a wish granter or joining a Fundraising team. As a wish granter, you visit the child, get to know their personality, and help bring their wish to life. As a member of a Fundraising team, you collect donations through various activities like sponsor walks, challenges or bake sales. You can also donate or become a volunteer. A team of volunteers turns every wish into a joyous experience for the entire family. When you become a volunteer at Make-A-Wish Norway, you can share your creative mind with all the wish kids.

What does Make-A-Wish Norway do to impact the lives of wish kids?

Living with a critical illness sometimes takes a great deal away from a child’s normal childhood, and can create emotional and physical stress. A wish brings back a touch of normalcy to both the child and their family. Evidence and medical professionals support the idea that wishes can enhance a child’s quality of life and lead to improved health outcomes. The members of the Make-A-Wish Medical Advisory Committee attest to the transformative impact of wishes on their patients and families, beyond just medical treatment.

What are the steps of the Wish Journey at Make-A-Wish Norway?

The Wish Journey at Make-A-Wish Norway begins with a referral from a child, parent, family member, or medical professional of a child living with a critical disease. Once the referral is received, eligibility is confirmed and one of our Wish Granters visits the family to discuss the child’s wish for the Wish Capture and Wish Design phases.

During the wait for the wish to be granted, the family feels the excitement of the Wish Anticipation phase. With the Wish Realization phase the wish is granted and celebrated with the child and family. As the final part of the Wish Journey, the family can feel the long lasting positive impact of the Wish Effect.

With help from donors, doctors, supporters, and volunteers, the wish is then granted through coordinated efforts. To start the process, submit a wish application form on behalf of the child and check with the child’s medical professional to ensure the wish is medically feasible.
